Magnetoscopy is a type of non-destructive testing used to search for surface and subsurface indications in metal parts. It is based on the attraction of ferromagnetic particles dispersed in liquid which highlight discontinuities in a direction generally transverse to the magnetic field and that determine a deviation of the flow lines of the magnetic field itself.

The test is applicable only to ferromagnetic steels.
